Mother’s depression has low effect on growth of children

Children whose mother suffers from depression may suffer from poor growth and low weight gain and Brazilian researchers conducted a research on more than 3800 children and mothers, in which 30% of the mothers suffered from depression.

It was found that depression effected the growth of children but there were many other factors contributing to the situation such as the family’s income, status and mother’s education and the effect of depression was very less (6% as compared to 3% of non-depressed mothers).
