The scientists say that a large chunk of Arctic ice broke from the northern Canadian coastal areas and it can become a hazard to the shipping business. The ice is said to be of length 20 km and it split from Ward Hunt shelf.

The ice split from Ellesmere Island and it is considered to be the biggest piece of ice. Earlier a 60 km ice drifted from Arctic region in the year 2005.The scientists are expecting further split in ice in the summer.
