The plains on mercury suggest that a volcanic activity has formed the surface of the planet. A liquid magnetic core was present in the planet mercury that had mostly Iron.55 hours of images taken by the flyby of Mercury, Messenger in the month of January has been studied to make conclusion about the structure of the planet.

The high resolution images of the planets showed that the volcanic eruption took place some 3 to 4 billion years ago .The articles related to the planet are published in Science journal.
