In 1996 Americans considered an oven to be a necessity but in the year 2006 only 32% of the Americans said that a microwave oven is a necessity. Similar changes can be seen in other things like clothes dryer, TV or a home air conditioner.

In a survey in 2006 49% of the people who were surveyed said that a cell phone was a necessity whereas younger generation doesn’t consider it to be a necessity. 51% of the people have said that a computer is a necessity.
